Good morning my fellow MF Products Blog readers, we truly hope you’ve started your morning well with a cup of MF Coffee. We can only hope. Today we will be looking at a topic slightly different to our usual content. Coffee culture resides outside of just the UK and USA and it didn’t take us long to find interesting customs and normalities in different countries such as the use of canned coffee in vending machines in Japan. In Japan, you can have coffee canned hot, cold, ground, or even in bean form and it’s all claimed from the clicking of a couple of buttons. For those who have been to Tokyo, I’m sure you would all understand the phenomenon that surrounds this vending machine culture. Every step you take, every corner, there seems to be a vending machine with what you desire right there, at your disposal. Canned coffee was conceived in Japan back in the 1960s and regarded as a quick and suitable way to start the day. Ueshima Coffee Company is considered to be one of the pioneers of the canned coffee movement. Their first initial canned coffee product was released in 1969 and since then, they have produced numerous ways to revolutionise their products, whether that be adding milk and different flavourings to the cans or introducing hot canned options in vending machines.
But we can’t just end it there because now we need to understand
Japanese coffee culture as a whole and to do that we need to time travel back
to the 1930s a time when the concept of a café was being introduced. During this
time over 10,000 coffee cafes were open, and the number was increasing plenteously.
However now, hundreds of thousands recall their student days where they would
partake in the trend and order their coffee straight from the vending machine
warm and in their hands early in the morning on their way to class. Sounds very
efficient if you ask me. With the rise of Japan’s metropolitan areas and
fast-paced workforce, timing became everything and leisurely cups of coffee at
cafes int eh 1930s could no longer be considered a daily ritual. The shift to
canned coffee was a natural progression; you can stop at a convenience store to
get your dose.
The MF Team hopes you enjoy the rest of your day.
