Good evening to all the MF
Products supporters, today is going to be a very different blog as we touch on
a peculiar use of coffee. Over the months we’ve looked at a variety of ways in
which coffee can be utilised. We’ve seen how it can be used for fertiliser, for
your skin and even your hair! Today is going to blow your mind however it turns
out coffee grounds can be used as an alternative fuel for your car.
Studies have shown that coffee
grounds hold within them special oils that can be used as a source of fuel. It’s
been said that the oil is similar to corn and soybean oil. Lately, researchers
at Lancaster University have been studying this process, working to make it simpler
and less pricey. Their improved approach takes roughly 10 minutes and can be
completed without the use of harmful, stripping chemicals – adding to its
eco-friendly appeal. This is interesting use as it means that we (as a society)
are closer to using used products for a better purpose.
The average American drinks 3.1
cups of coffee a day and only consume 80% of each cup. Scientists and analysts
have hypothesised that with that spare 20%, the wasted ground could be put to
good use for this alternative fuel method. It’s said that 720,000 metric tons
of bio-diesel fuel could be produced with the oils from the coffee grounds.
